Slice of Life: Happy birthday, hubby!

Thanks to Ethical ELA’s Open Write, I was brave enough to draft a poem on my hubby’s birthday yesterday to celebrate his life and how we’ve grown while also using my 2021 One Little Word.

through our words
feels safe

like this
once felt impossible

our ideas
liberates my mind

to your mind
feels a privilege

with you
feels easy

to your heart
makes mine beat

as you make space for my curiosities
and encourage my endeavors
and teach me to love you so that our

connection remains.

There’s so much I love about this poem – your alternating between connection/connecting, along with the heartbeat of “connecting/connecting/connecting.”

You do an amazing job of using words to express a love and connection that extends well beyond what words can offer.

    IMO you have WON birthdays…

I love how being in a relationship like the one you and your husband enjoy causes both partners to be more than who they were alone. “A sum greater than its parts” is a result of that effect. Thanks for sharing this poem!
